The short answer

HST in Ontario is 13%. It is made of a 5% federal part and an 8% provincial part. A $100 price becomes $113.

Rate checked with the CRA and Ontario on October 31, 2026. For any amount, use the free HST calculator.

What the 13% is made of

HST stands for Harmonized Sales Tax. Effective July 1, 2010, it replaced Ontario's 8% retail sales tax and the 5% federal GST on most goods and services, according to the Government of Ontario. The CRA administers and collects it for Ontario.

You see one tax, not two. The CRA's Guide RC4022 says not to show the federal and provincial parts separately on an invoice.

Only if you are registered for GST/HST. If you are a small supplier and have not registered, you do not charge it.
